A Brief Guide To Installing Under Sink Water Filters
Investing in an under the sink water filtration
system is a great idea to give your family fresh clean drinking water
directly from the tap. Installing your own filtration system can also save
you a ton of money over buying bottled water. Depending on your model
installing your under the sink water filter may be a little different but
this is a general overview of how it is done.
The first thing you need to do is identify the hot
and cold pipes coming into the tap. If the pipes are not easily marked or
you can’t figure it out you should run hot tap water for about 2 minutes.
Turn off the water and touch the pipes you will be able to find out which
one is hot because it will be much warmer than the other pipe.
Before you get started also check the pipes for
corrosion or any other damage. If you see damage you should replace the
pipes before installing your under the sink water filter.
Next you want to turn off the water flowing to the
sink there should be a valve located under the sink to this. Once the
water is off you can unhook the cold water side. The following steps could
change slightly depending on what type of water filtration system you
choose. The basic idea is however is you will route the cold water flow to
the filter and then the filter outflow back into the faucet.
Once you have all the water flow set up you will
want to mount your unit under the sink. Most systems come with all the
hardware and specific instructions on how to place it. Once the unit is
properly secured you should re-check all the lines to make sure they are tight and secure.
Most models also have a filter that you have to
separately put inside as well. You should check your manual to make sure
that you follow the manufacturers schedule for replacing the filter inside the unit.
Once this is all done all there is left to do it
turn on the faucet and enjoy a cold clean glass of water. Although
installing an under the sink water filtration system is pretty easy if you
do not feel comfortable doing it yourself most manufactures have
authorized installers to come do the work for you or you could even hire a
local plumber to install it.
